One of the most influential holes in British golf. The central fairway bunkers, introduced by John Low and Stuart Paton, forced golfers to think rather than merely endure. Tom Simpson, later one of the great architects of his era, was a member here and is said to have been inspired to pursue design after studying this hole. Hug the railway or play safe down the left, compromising your angle into the green? The choice is yours.
